Every day, including Mother’s Day, I remember my Mom who passed away 27 years ago, at the age of 51.
My Mom’s gravestone says “Life is a Cabaret” and if this were the one thing she taught me, it would be enough. After a painful divorce, my Mom reinvigorated her joy for life. She was a smart, blunt, and funny woman.
Mothers are a powerful influence.
I was reading this moving post by Marianne Elliott about Suraya Pakzad, “a tireless campaigner for Afghan women.” Surya is like a mother for other mothers and it reminded me that the whole concept of mothering is about love.
We all need to be mothered, even the mothers in our lives. We all need to be loved. We all need to be forgiven because we fall short sometimes. Even mothers. As Marianne says, love is the only antidote to hate.
If you want to do something different this Mother’s Day, check out Marianne’s post. You can make a donation in honor of your mother or all mothers to the organization, To Mama With Love, which supports Surya and women like her who are mothering others.
Happy Mothers Day!

Thank you!
Great post by Marianne Elliott. “All we need is love.” Happy Mother’s Day to you, with love.
