Friday Photo – Purple Wildflowers Chicago

eBay auction item – 5×7 photo matted to 11×14

Surprisingly, this beautiful garden of purple wildflowers was taken in none other than downtown Chicago.

Situated between the Chicago River and the Art Institute of Chicago is the 25 acre Millennium Park. Opened in 2004, it was for many years an industrial wasteland of parking lots and railroad tracks. But, a partnership between the City of Chicago and the philanthropic community turned it into a world class park which hosts more than 500 free events annually.

Besides the gardens, it is home to the Jay Pritzker Pavilian, an outdoor concert space designed by Frank Gehry, and major art installations, including “the bean,” otherwise known as Cloud Gate, which was designed by Anish Kapoor.

I was thrilled to spend quite a bit of time photographing everything the park had to offer.
