Friday Photo – Spring Tulips

Friday’s posts will now be devoted to photographs. And I would love your feedback. What do the images posted bring up for you?

Today, it’s tulips.

Spring is just around the corner here in the mid western United States. Tulips, for me, are the harbinger of spring, and they pretty much take my breath away.

The image below is my favorite tulip picture because it shows the beauty and fragility of these spring flowers. I know they will only be around for a short time so I savor them. Called Porcelain Tulip, it was taken in 2007 and won an award at the North American Educators Association Annual Photo Contest. One person told me that it made them feel more alive after seeing it.

Here some quotes I found on tulips.

The tulips are too excitable, it is winter here. ~ Sylvia Plath, Tulips

The tulips make me want to see. ~ A.E. Stallings, Tulips

Life is but a circle, I will bloom again next spring. ~ Heather

And tulips, children love to stretch their fingers down, to feel in each its beauty’s sweet nearer. ~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning, A Flower in a Letter

This year, I photographed tulips again, this time red and yellow ones, and this is the result – Tulip Portion. How do tulips make you feel?

I adore your photography. I have to admit, your compositions are fantastic. You never fail to knock my socks off, and you certainly haven’t this time. That first photo is stunning. The subtle pinks combined with the pastel green, so beautiful (yes, I know I’m dragging out the thesaurus here, but there are only so many words to express beauty, and I’m running out. None of them can quite say what needs to be said.)

The second one has helped me define why I like your work so much. You paint with your camera. These compositions have all the elements of paintings. Texture, colour, it is as if you have sat with a brush for hours to create these. You make me want to get out my media and play around with colour.

Beautiful work. Thanks so much for sharing and I’ll be tuning in to see your photography on Fridays, for sure.

    Nutty
(it’s past midnight and I didn’t ge to do any artwork due to my youngest refusing to go to bed, so I’m all gushy :D )

Nutty, thank you so much for the kind words. Your sincerity always comes through. I don’t have a way with words like you do, but just know that I am a huge fan or your artwork too (and your challenges).

Ha, Correen, yes I’m glad you see it that way. I have some too intimate to even show. Can you tell I’ve been influenced by Georgia O’Keefe.
